About the Brighton Shakespeare Company

With six smash hit productions behind us we are now preparing for our 7th, Julius Caesar for touring and our return to BOAT this summer (2021) . BSC is Brighton’s very own Shakespeare company which began life as one of the very first companies to perform at BOAT in 2015 where we continue to produce our summer shows.

The company was created by award winning actor/writer/director, Mark Brailsford who is well known for his long running hit comedy show The Treason Show (est 2000).

Our successful debut production was followed by Much Ado About Nothing, Macbeth (tour) and a rapturously received A Midsummer Night’s Dream at various venues across Sussex including 11th century churches and Lewes Castle. Our acclaimed production of The Merchant of Venice (with a female Shylock) was hailed as the best work seen outside of the Globe and the RSC by critics. Our work is led by the AD and associate directors Sarah Mann and Kerren Garner who also leads our schools workshop programme.

The BSC ethos is simple, to make Shakespeare accessible and richly entertaining for all.                                                                          Mark Brailsford, Artistic Director.
